Green Index - Canada's Directory of Green Businesses

Market for used cars booming

Let’s temper our enthusiasm for older cars being scrapped in favour of new ones with this sobering article that more people are buying used cars. Leaving aside the argument of whether a car should be kept on the road for as long as possible to save original material costs, new cars are a good idea if you are retiring a clunker.

Axworthy chair of freight action group

Freight isn’t going away as long as people are consuming like crazy. It’s likely every business in Canada (including your green business) is part of a supply chain. To that end, we should all be happy that folks are looking at ways to improve the efficiency of freight movement. Give me a train, though.

More Than 50,000 Vehicles Registered Under the Government of Canada’s Retire Your Ride Vehicle Scrappage Program

Out with the old, in with the new. As everyone knows, newer cars are much more efficient so here’s to more efficient vehicles on the road! And here’s to hoping you scooped up a new vehicle for your Canadian Green Business.

Energy efficiency key for new homes

Strange that R2000 is still so far advanced. In my younger days, I had some peripheral involvement with Natural Resources Canada Advanced Houses program. These were quite advanced for their day and ultimately were supposed to replace R2000. R2000 still seems to be the standard.

Economics prove fatal to carbon capture projects

I (and most environmentalist) have never been convinced of the feasibility of this technology. Seems more and more studies are supporting our skepticism.

Feds cut cheque for Great Lakes clean-up

While I won’t say that our current government has an exemplary environmental track record (not by a long shot) it’s good to see this type of funding actually materializing.

Old-world greening

I love Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company (web site, listing). My dad actually had a hand in teaching Petra Cooper how to make cheese. Anyway, this is one of the most amazing Canadian Green Business success stories.

Helping to grow green companies

Investment is good for any business. Canadian Green Businesses need a little more assistance to achieve economies of scale since they are so young. Kudos to additional investment for green companies.

Green bins invade Ottawa

Guelph has gone through a similar program but there was a fair bit of backlash from those that felt that sorting garbage was simply too much work.

Waste-to-Energy Technology Reaches Major Milestone: SDTC Celebrates Completion of Plasco Project

Not everyone is in agreement that incinerators are green but plasma seems to burn trash at a high enough temperature to make emissions less of a problem.

MTS Allstream Celebrates Official Opening of Allstream Centre

It’s not every day that a conference opening is worth a mention but the Allstream is Canada’s greenest to date. Consider it for your Canadian Green Business’ next conference or meeting.
